Three young sailors of the Indian Navy, Akash ME I, Dhananjay SEA I and Vishwakarma ME I, were instrumental in rescuing a man who had fallen into the sea off Marine Drive on the night of September 9, 2018.
The sailors were visiting Marine Drive when they noticed people gathered at a spot nearby. On reaching the spot, they observed a man drowning about 150 m into the sea.
Akash, a Ship's Diver, Dhananjay, a good swimmer, and Vishwakarma, a Marine Commando, immediately jumped into the water and swam out towards the drowning man and brought him to safety. Their selfless and prompt act of bravery is in keeping with the finest traditions of the Indian Navy.
Petty Officer Jithu Baby was promoted to the rank of Chief Petty Officer on September 7, 2018 at Naval Base Kochi. He is a Naval member of the silver medal winning team in 4X400 mtr relay in the just concluded Asian Games 2018.
Felicitation Ceremony of Cdt Hima Das was held at Khagen Mahanta Auditorium, Nagaon on September 11, 2018. Cdt Hima Das was felicitated on behalf of DG NCC and ADG NER NCC by Col RB Patil, Offg Gp Cdr, Tezpur Gp and Col Vinay Malhotra, CO 8 Assam Bn NCC. She was handed over a Demand Draft of Rs 25,000/- in recognition of her exceptional performance in the field of Athletics.
The event was organised under the aegis of Dist Adm, Nagaon. While addressing the gathering, she fondly remembered her NCC days.
