The College of Military Engineering celebrated its Platinum Jubilee Year with zeal and fervour on September 28, 2018. Lt Gen Michael Mathews, Commandant CME extended his greetings to all ranks, civilian employees, their families and veterans of the College on the day.
Since its modest beginning in 1943 as the School of Military Engineering at Roorkee, a lot of water has flowed down the Mula River on the banks of which the College of Military Engineering (CME) was established in 1948, wherein it has evolved into a magnificent and vibrant cradle of learning and development of sapper leadership. The past 75 years have witnessed the College registering an enviable growth not only in terms of infrastructure but also in quality of training imparted therein, by assiduously adapting training strategies in tune with the need of the environment. CME, the Alma Mater of the Corps of Engineers, is an embodiment of knowledge, embellishing sappers with professional acumen through quality training touching upon all facets and domains of engineering tasks.
Today, CME is proud to be home to four Centres of Excellence – EDD, Camouflage, CBRN and GIS training - and these have become the niche areas of our Corps. To meet the shortage of officers in the Army, the College also took upon the onerous responsibility of establishing the Cadets Training Wing in 2002, which has since evolved as a premier pre-commission training institution in a span of just 16 years imparting technical cum military training to future officers of IA.
The Alma Mater has been at the forefront of propagating latest training in all the core competencies of the Corps and it is the responsibility which will continue to be addressed by the College with utmost diligence and commitment. It envisions to further strengthen the bedrock of edification by carrying out progressive changes in training methodology and infrastructure development. In its endeavour to impart basic engineering knowledge it will also ensure a holistic and comprehensive approach to future development. In years to come, the College envisages to uphold high ideals of perfection to stand the testimony of perseverance and steadfastness of sappers who are its alumni and also continue to make it proud in all fields of activities.
To commemorate the years of its existence, CME organised various events including CME Lake Marathon, CME Mela, M/C Display, Band and Tattoo Display, Para Motor and Skydiving Display, Band Symphony for all ranks and families of the College including civilians of the College, Rel of Spl Postal Cover and CME Coffee Table Book by Lt Gen SK Shrivastava, Engineer-in-Chief.
