Historic Cycling Expedition by Air Force Station, Thoise
To commemorate the momentous occasion of 86th Anniversary of Indian Air Force, AF Stn, Thoise conducted a cycling expedition in the daunting terrain of Ladakh region. This challenging expedition from Siachen Base Camp War Memorial to Kargil War Memorial was undertaken by Air Force personnel of Air Force Station, Thoise. This expedition started on September 28, 2018 and culminated on October 4, 2018 at Kargil War Memorial. The team leader of this historic expedition was Group Captain Neeraj Kumar, Station Commander, Air Force Station, Thoise and the overall coordinator was Wing Commander Vikrant Uniyal. The expedition was flagged off by the Base Commander, HQ Siachen Base Camp.
The expedition team comprising 17 Air Warriors including supporting staff covered a total distance of 540 kms in seven days through the treacherous route, via highest motorable Khardungla pass between Khalsar and Leh and challenging Hambuting pass between Batalik and Kargil.
Despite the daunting environmental conditions unique to this terrain, the air warriors completed this historic expedition in the most professional manner. The objective of the expedition was to spread and promote the spirit of adventure, solidarity and national integration. The expedition team members paid homage to the brave martyrs at Siachen and Kargil War Memorial. During the course of the expedition, the team visited various villages enroute and interacted with the villagers. The message carried by the expedition was–"Importance of Physical Fitness to Achieve Excellence".
