Maritime Search and Rescue Workshop Conducted at Andaman & Nicobar Region
Indian Coast Guard Region (A&N) conducted Maritime Search and Rescue workshop for all Maritime Search and Rescue, M-SAR stake holders and maritime industry present in Andaman & Nicobar Region on October 8, 2018 at Port Blair. The workshop was inaugurated by Shri Chetan Bhusan Sanghi, Chief Secretary Andaman & Nicobar in presence of Inspector General MV Pathak, Commander Coast Guard (A&N) by lighting of a lamp by stake holders to depict strength and spirit of jointmanship. Besides outstation participants, the event witnessed participation of multiple M-SAR stake holders from Andaman and Nicobar region viz maritime industry, DGS/MMD, DGCA/AAI, DSS, PMB, IRS, Department of Fisheries, ISTRAC, INCOIS, DMA, CISF, Customs, Andaman Merchant club, Representations of sport fishing club etc.
The workshop was aimed at identifying the gaps between the 'Expectations and Capabilities' and thus was structured to present varied perspectives from the M-SAR service provider, Administration and the Maritime Industry. The workshop weaved in detailed presentations by experienced speakers, on various topics such as Knowledge of Maritime SAR Architecture, Role and Responsibilities, Technological Developments,  Resource Integration, National/International Obligations and established Procedure etc.
All participants and stake holders opined that the M-SAR workshop was unique and beneficial for M-SAR service provider maritime industry staff and users at large for understanding the gaps in capabilities and expectations from M-SAR system in order to avert mishaps at sea. Inspector General MV Pathak, Commander Coast Guard (A&N) felicitated all the distinguished panelists on completion of the event. It was opined that such interactions will enhance interagency cooperation and pave way for confidence building between the stake holders in maritime SAR domain.
The responsibility to "Save and Protect Lives" in the Maritime environment within Indian SRR is entrusted upon Indian Coast Guard. Wherein, under the aegis of National Maritime Search and Rescue Control Board (NMSARB), MRCC Port Blair is the coordinating centre for all maritime SAR activities in A & N SRR.
