The second leg of the "Sea Riders Patrol Motorcycle Expedition" was flagged off by Rear Admiral Puneet Chadha, Deputy Commandant and Chief Instructor from Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, on May 9, 2018. The 20 member motorcycle expedition team comprising of Naval Officers including women officers from Goa Naval Area commenced their journey from Mumbai on May 5, 2018 to commemorate the golden jubilee of the Western Naval Command.
The motorcycle expedition crew visited all historical lighthouses enroute, which were part of India's maritime heritage. The crew upon their arrival at Indian Naval Academy, Ezimala visited the Mt Dilli lighthouse, which has been a witness to the developments of the maritime history of this region. The aim of the expedition is to highlight the need for coastal security amongst civil population and maritime history of coastal India.
The riders, as part of their expedition, visited the lighthouses located at Jaigarh, Vengurla, Fort Aguada, Bhatkal, Kaup prior to arriving at Ezhimala. The expedition on this leg to Kochi visited the lighthouses located at Calicut and Cannanore. The 17 day long coastal motorcycle expedition will cover over 6000 km from Mumbai will terminate at Kolkata on May 21, 2018 touching all nine coastal states.
