Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, the country's premier Defence Shipyard has declared a dividend of Rs. 165.41 crore at the rate of 66.43 percent on equity share capital for financial year 2016-17. The cheque for the amount was handed over to the Raksha Mantri Smt Nirmala Sitharaman on February 28, 2018 by the Chairman and Managing Director, Cmde (Retd) Rakesh Anand in presence of Addl. Secretary (Defence Production) Shri Sanjiv Mittal, JS (Naval System) Shri Vijayendra and Director (Submarine & Heavy Engineering) Capt Rajiv Lath.
The Company recorded a turnover (VOP) of Rs. 3523.67 crore with profit after tax of Rs.525.12 crore in FY 2016-17.

Raksha Rajya Mantri Dr Subhash Ramarao Bhamre was on a three day visit to Andaman & Nicobar Command from February 25, 2018. On his maiden visit to the Command, he was familiarised with the operational capabilities and uniqueness of the first and only joint services Operational Command of the country. During his visit, Dr Bhamre interacted with the Lt Governor, Admiral DK Joshi (Retd) and Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command Vice Admiral Bimal Verma.
Dr Bhamre went on a windshield tour of the operational areas of Andaman and Nicobar Command. He also interacted with the troops at Port Blair during tea organised at HQ ANC.
General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Army Staff hosted a lunch on meeting with Veterans at Army House in New Delhi. The aim of the meeting was to have interaction and value inputs from them for overall betterment of the force.
Attended by more than 350 veterans officers (all below Colonels), JCOs, NCOs & Jawans. It was an honour and heartening to see the non-agenarian veterans moving proudly and interacting freely. Truly, once a soldier, always a soldier.

As part of the Indian Army's ongoing outreach programme to foster the spirit of National Integration across the entire swathe of the country, a tour comprising of 11 Boys and 9 Girls, accompanied by two teachers from Sajik Tampak, Chandel, Manipur was organised from February 19 to March 1, 2018.
The tour was flagged off from Sajik Tampak, Chandel, Manipur on February 16, 2018 and during the course of the tour, participants have visited various cultural and historical places in Delhi and Agra. The participants interacted with General Bipin Rawat on February 21, 2018. The General shared his experiences with the students and motivated them to work hard and contribute actively in the Nation Building process. He also exhorted them to join the Indian Armed Forces and serve the cause of the Nation.
These National Integration Tours are educational and motivational tours for youth of North Eastern States and J&K, with an aim to provide an insight into the rich heritage of the country as well as various developmental and industry initiatives that are underway. This initiative will expose them to various career options and enable them to interact with renowned personalities.
Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa, Chief of Air Staff addressed the future leaders of the Tri-services of Indian Armed forces on March 05, 2018 at College of Defence Management (CDM) as they get prepared to take on higher leadership role after completing the prestigious Higher Defence Management Course (HDMC).
The Chief of the Air Staff talked about Joint Operations in the Indian Air Force Context. He described the contributions of Air Force in the joint operations undertaken in the past. He said that the wars fought by us and the peace time operations for humanitarian aid and in response to disaster situations have emphasised the need for synergised use of all three services of the Indian Armed Force. He charted out and explained the future road map of Air Force towards greater jointmanship.
He spoke about the high level of preparedness of Air Force in terms of the air assets held and high professional state of training of the personnel. He advised the officers to leverage the joint training being carried out at CDM to build on relationships which contributes greatly towards greater jointmanship. Post his lecture the CAS interacted with the officers in a free and candid manner wherein he answered the questions posed to him by the participant officers.
An Ex-servicemen (ESM) rally was held at Trichy by Madras Regimental Centre under the aegis of HQ Dakshin Bharat Area. More than 2000 Ex-servicemen, Veer Naaris and Veterans of Army, Navy and Air Force belonging to Trichy, Karur, Perampalur, Arilur and Dindigul districts of Tamilnadu attended the rally.
Mrs Anupama Anand, Zonal President, AWWA, Dakshin Bharat Area inaugurated the rally by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
Speaking on the occasion Lieutenant General RK Anand, General Officer Commanding, Dakshin Bharat Area elaborated various welfare projects being conducted by Dakshin Bharat Area in Tamilnadu, informing them about health schemes especially for soldier disabled in line of duty.
During the rally modified scooter to two disabled soldiers were given, cash incentives were also given to six Veer Naaris and three disabled soldiers.
A large number of stalls were established to facilitate and resolve grievances and issues related to pensioner, re-employment, rehabilitation under the latest policies and guidelines. Military Hospital, Chennai has conducted free medical and health camps for dental and medical checkup.
Southern Command Investiture Ceremony was conducted at Pune on February 10, 2018. Lieutenant General D R Soni, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Southern Command, felicitated two Officers and four Other Ranks with Sena Medal (Gallantry). These awards were given to the awardees for various acts of gallantry on January 26, 2018.
The awardees were Lieutenant Colonel Amit Chamoli, Major Pradeep Kumar Nigam, Lance Havildar Raisham Singh, Naik Revat Singh, Naik Dileep Kumar Singh and Rifleman Abhinash Rai.
The Army Commander also bestowed Unit Citations to 14 Units of Southern Command for their meritorious and outstanding performance. The Ceremony was graced by a host of civil and military dignitaries and other distinguished guests.
Para Legal Course Serial No–2 for JCOs & NCOs concluded at IML on February 24, 2018. Junior Commissioned Officers and Non Commissioned Officers from various formation Head Quarters across the country have successfully completed the four weeks course and acquired proficiency in Military and allied Laws and procedures essential for processing disciplinary cases.
In the Valedictory address to the students of Para Legal Course, Brig AD Jamwal, Commandant Institute of Military Law complimented the trainees on successful completion of the course and addressed them to enhance their educational qualifications and keep themselves informed about the changes taking place in the field of Military Law. He also emphasised the importance of correct documentation relating to disciplinary and administrative actions against the service personnel. Havildar (Clerk) Shanmuga Sundaram P secured first position in the course and second position was secured by Nb Sub (Clerk) Debasish Jena and Hav (Clerk ) B Umapathi.

Srinivasacharyulu, working in the Communication Centre of Headquarters, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area, Navy Office, INS Adyar, Chennai is a keen cyclist who has undertaken many cycling expedition alone in various parts of our country. He is now on a cycle expedition from February 2 to March 14, 2018 from Jammu Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The 143 Years Old Grandpa Cycle has covered 10,688 Kms so far. This Himsagar Cycle Expedition covered 3,999 Kms, Jammu & Kashmir to Kanyakumari (TN).

A Chemical, Biological, Radiological & Nuclear (CBRN) Lecture-cum-Demonstration (LDM) was conducted at Surya KhelPrisar on February 22, 2018 by Garud Engineer Regiment and Garud Field Ambulance. Lieutenant General JK Sharma, Chief of Staff, Central Command witnessed the LDM alongwith the Officers.
The LDM focussed on mitigation measures to be undertaken during CBRN incident in peace time in case of requisitioning of Army by the civil administration. Evacuation of people, containment measures, cordoning of affected area & treatment of people were the key highlights of the LDM. Critical CBRN equipment was also displayed & its use was shown to the participants.
CBRN exercises are held biannually by the designated units in the Command Zone. Such exercises are extremely important to prepare soldiers to assist the civil administration in case of any CBRN incident during peace time. Lieutenant General JK Sharma, Chief of Staff, Headquarters Central Command appreciated the professionalism and expressed satisfaction on the efforts put in by the conducting unit & their preparedness level.
Smt Madhulika P Sukul took over as 51st Controller General of Defence Accounts on February 1, 2018. She is from the Indian Defence Accounts Service of 1982 Batch.
During the career span of more than 35 years, she has held important assignments in the Defence Accounts Department and on deputation in the Ministries of Govt. of India. She has vast and varied experience in handling Finance, Personnel, Pay & Budget matters of Govt. of India, while working with the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, 12th Finance Commission and in the Fifth and Sixth Pay Commissions as Director & Joint Secretary.
She was Additional Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, Govt. of India before taking over as the CGDA.
As part of lndo-US Bilateral Defence Cooperation, the 8th Defence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI) Inter Agency Task Force Meeting was held on February 26, 2018. The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff Vice Admiral A K Jain and Acting Director, International Cooperation Mr Matthew Warren. The DTTI was initiated as an idea by former US Secretary of Defence Dr Ashton Carter in 2012.
The aim of DTTI is to bring sustained leadership focus to the bilateral defence trade relationship and create opportunities for co-production and co-development of defence equipment. A number of Joint Working Groups spanning varied projects have been established under DTTI on both sides, which have identified various projects for the Armed Forces. The Working Groups meet regularly to discuss and take forward the projects. The fact that the US has declared India as a major defence partner under the National Defence Authorisation Act in 2017 has given an impetus to the DTTI.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Admiral A K Jain brought out that India's Defence Industry was in a growing stage and looking to acquire niche technology in manufacturing Defence weapons and equipment. This will also give a boost to India's flagship 'Make in India' initiative.
The US Co-chair, Mr Matthew Warren highlighted that defence cooperation between the two countries is continuing to make progress. Both sides understand the importance of DTTI in this respect and it is a good forum for mutual cooperation to take ahead the defence ties between the two sides.
