Indian Coast Guard is celebrating 41 years of glorious service to the nation. To commemorate the occasion, a visit of school children was organized onboard Indian Coast Guard Ship Sagar and Shaurya on February 5-6, 2018 at Chennai Port. The day was a memorable one for 1311 Children from 8 School as they got an opportunity to visit the frontline ships of the Indian Coast Guard.
During the visit, the students got an opportunity to interact with the Captain of the ship and its crew and were explained about the Indian Coast Guard charter of duties such as Search and Rescue, Pollution Response and safeguarding the 7516 km long coast line and 2.01 million Sq km of Exclusive Economic Zone. The role of Indian Coast Guard in protecting Indian fishermen during distress at sea and community interaction programme of ICG to make the fishermen aware about safety and security aspect at sea was also explained to the school children. A movie on the Coast Guard was also screened for the students and they were informed about the career opportunities in Coast Guard.
