The 8th Red Shield Division Polo Tournament ended on February 18, 2018 with thrilling finals in which X-Polo Club team lifted the trophy by beating Manipur Police Sports Club-B with score of 5-2. Fifteen teams had contested for top honours in this prestigious tournament.
Maj Gen U Suresh Kumar, General Officer Commanding, Red Shield Division, Mr H Deleep Singh, IAS, Commissioner, Higher Education & Social Welfare and President, Manipur Horse Riding And Polo Association, Mr Suresh Babu, Additional Chief Secy (H), Brigadier SKS Chauhan, Dy GOC, HQ 57 Mtn Div graced the occasion, as the Chief Guest, president and the guests of honour respectively. Speaking on the occasion Mr H Dilip Singh, Manipur Horse Riding And Polo Association complimented the army for sponsoring the event and extending whole hearted support in promoting traditional Manipuri sport and culture.
The Chief Guest Maj Gen U Suresh Kumar, General Officer Commanding, Red Shield Division complimented all the participants for their splendid performance in the tournament and said that he was glad that Red Shield Division was lending a helping hand to young polo players in whom he sees a lot of potential. He assured the people of Manipur of the continued support from the army for promotion of traditional sports in the future. He also said that the tournament would have helped in discovering new talent amongst the youth and above all taught us the values of courage, team work and dignity in victory or defeat.
The impressive closing ceremony which was witnessed by a large number of army personnel and locals of the state included a breathtaking Motor Cycle Rider display by the team of Army Service Corps which was specially invited from Bangalore for the ceremony, sky diving display by the brave troops of Indian Army and also splendid performance of Araambai and Sagol Kangjei organised by Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association.
The ceremony also witnessed an impressive band display by Indian Army and tent pegging exhibition by junior riders of Manipur.
