Skill Development/Training on Mushroom Cultivation at High Altitude
A one day training course under "DRDO Programme Arunodaya" of Defence Research Laboratory Det., Tawang was conducted by DRL team led by Shri Ashok Naglot, Scientist 'D' and expert's viz., Shri Utsab Deb, Scientist 'C', Shri Vijay Pal, STA 'B' and Shri Arpan Sarkar, STA 'B'. A total of 19 army personnel (JCO - 5 and ORs -14) from different army units viz., 6 GRENADIERS, 7 BIHAR, 337 Field Regiment, 27 PUNJAB, 107 Engineers and 190 Mountain Brigade, attended the training programme. In the first session, they were informed in detail about the nutritional benefits of mushrooms, their economic importance as an alternative source of income and stepwise cultivation methodology of mushroom. In the second session, the participants prepared mushroom bags themselves under the supervision of DRL team as a part of practical demonstration and execution. A total of 72 mushroom bags, each of 1 kg weight were prepared by army personnel. The participants were thoroughly explained about the micro points to be remembered during mushroom bag preparation, incubation and harvesting. Mushroom spawn packs (250 gm) were distributed to each army personnel from the different units along with substrate (buckwheat agro residue) and polythene packs, so that they can continue with the endeavour on their own at their respective units. Mushroom technology calendar was also provided to each participant.
