A large number of air warriors of Indian Air Force from HQ Maintenance Command Vayusena Nagar, Nagpur came out to participate in the cleanliness drive at the Futala Lake on May 27, 2018 by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). The drive started at 7 AM and the Air Force contingent was led by Air Marshal Hemant Sharma, Air officer Commanding-in-Chief, Headquarters Maintenance Command and included all the senior officers.
Futala Lake is a very prominent landmark of the city where people from all walks of life come and spend some quality time with their families and friends. A large crowd of students is also seen there most of the time due to a large number of eateries located on the Dam. The road passing through Futala Lake Dam is the approach to Headquarters Maintenance Command and large amount of garbage generated by the shops and shacks is an eyesore at this scenic spot. This is in stark contrast to the area from KV Vayusena Nagar that is maintained neat and clean by the HQ Maintenance Command. Thus any effort to cleanup the area strikes an instant chord with the Indian Air Force.
For the cleanup of Futala Lake front, air warriors were allocated different areas on the road along the lake. Also to make the drive longer lasting and leave a permanent impression on the minds of the people, the Indian Air Force came out with colourful banner with a logo and slogan 'Lets Save the Pond'. The banners would be left at a few places along the lake to remind the people that the lake belongs to all of us and its cleanliness is also our joint responsibility. The IAF Officials also interacted with NMC Commissioner and assured all possible help and contribution in this noble effort.
