The Army in Baramulla conducted an Awam Milan-Cum-Open Forum with the residents of Old Town Baramulla and villages of Binner, Janbazpura and Khadniyar.
Organised by the local RR Battalion at Baramulla the Awam Milan witnessed large participation by the Mohalla Presidents and Village Sarpanches wherein a series of issues for peace and development in Baramulla were deliberated upon.
Participating in the event the Brigade Commander, Baramulla Brigade urged the village leaders to motivate the local youth to adopt the righteous path and not involve in any unlawful activities like drug abuse or stone pelting. The developmental and community welfare works undertaken by the Army, specifically for the Old Town residents, were brought out for the benefit of the people :-
Conduct of Motor Driving Classes as part of skill development for 22 Old Town Youth.
Cleaning and Desilting Old Town water filtration plant for provisioning of pure drinking water to the residents.
Installation of 100 x street lights in various mohallas of Old Town for safety and security in public places/ lanes.
Restoration and improvement of Drangbal and Khadniyar play grounds alongwith conduct of sports tournament there for the local youth.
Successfully progressing the case with Divisional Commissoner, Kashmir for immediate release of funds and commencement of work for foot bridge across River Jhelum.
Facilitating the widening of lanes/streets in vicinity of Army bases in Baramulla.
Regular visits by Lady Medical officer to the Old Town Primary Health Center, Baramulla for treatment of women patients.
The successful implementation of these long pending demands projected by Mohalla presidents and Village Sarpanches was well received by the people and some more specific requests were made which are being examined under the aegis of Dagger Division.
The event reaffirmed the close bonhomie between the Awam and the Army in Baramulla.
