The Indian Army's Golden Katar Division organized a Duathlon on August 20, 2017 at Gandhinagar for Officers of its various formations/ units. The event was flagged off by Air Marshal RK Dhir Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Air Command at Military Station Gandhinagar.
A total of 58 officers of various age and service seniority participated in the event with enthusiasm and zeal. The event included 25 kms of cycling, 10 kms of running followed by firing with personal combat weapons.
The Duathlon was followed up by a Triathlon organised on August 22, 2017 which included 750 meters of swimming, 20 kms of cycling and 10 kms of running followed by firing by personal combat weapons at the Baffle Range in Military Station Gandhinagar.
A total of 54 Officers, all from the constituent units of Golden Katar Division spread across the States of Gujarat & Rajasthan participated in the Triathlon which was a notch tougher than the earlier event.
The events were aimed at promoting the idea of adopting endurance building activities like running, cycling and swimming as hobby, apart from the rigors that form part of a soldier's routine training and fitness regimen.
The participating Officers included Commanding Officers of several units with Major General Anil Puri, General Officer Commanding Golden Katar Division leading from the front who participated in both the Duathlon and the Triathlon. The competition was conducted in 2 categories viz: Less than 35 years of age and 35 years and above.
Chief Secretary Gujarat State, Shri Jagdeep Narayan Singh gave away the prizes to the winners and lauded the participants for the grit and endurance they displayed.
