Kishtwar is a picturesque hill town well known for its majestic hills and the raging Chenab river. The interlinked mountains not just reflect the toughness of geography but are also a reflection of the resolve of the people of Kishtwar to stand by the Nation at all times. The friendly locals have always displayed a sense of nationalism and patriotism.
The Army also joined the people of Kishtwar on the eve of 71st Independence Day by organising an Army Mela under the Rashtriya Rifles Sector. The event which attracted a host of people especially school and college students commenced with the hoisting of National Flag by Commander 9 Sector Rashtriya Rifles followed by a Dog Show and an Army Pipe Band Display. The event also featured display of wide array of military weapons, equipments and special vehicles as well as Kargil War Photo Gallery which turned out to be a motivating and encouraging experience for young minds. In addition, the school students proved their artistic skills by way of participating in Inter-School Painting Competition on the theme of National Integration and sporting talent through Tug-of-War competition and bagged away prizes. About 2500 people including civil dignitaries, students, teachers and others graced the event.
The locals of Kishtwar especially the civil dignitaries and teachers applauded this effort of Army and turned out in huge numbers to participate, witness and support the event. They also thanked the Army for organising a motivating and unforgettable event of such magnitude. It was a sincere effort to intrigue the senses of youth to know more about Army and encourage them to choose their career in Army as "The Way of Life".
