Unique Football at Naval Base, Kochi
On a day when 'one million goals' project was underway across Kerala, the Southern naval Command (SNC) at Kochi organised a unique event to add towards the Football frenzy. An exhibition blind football match was held inside Naval Base, Kochi on September 27 by the Indian Blind Football Federation (IBFF), affiliated to Paralympic Committee of India. Vice Admiral AR Karve, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command (SNC) was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The friendly match between teams with 5 players each was played over 40 minutes, comprising two halves. One team had players from Kerala and the other from all over India. On completion of the match, the Flag Officer gave away medals to all the participants. The match sought to spread awareness about the potential of the visually impaired and dispel commonly held misconceptions besides expressing solidarity with the promotion of football across the state.
The SNC also participated in the "one million goal" campaign towards the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup at Kochi. Approximately 150 naval personnel participated by kicking a goal each at various venues inside the naval base.
IBFF is promoted by the Society for Rehabilitation of the Visually Challenged, a Kochi NGO working with the blind since 2002 for providing them avenues for rehabilitation and employment, as well as to develop and recognise their sporting talents
