Thangraj Stadium, at Madras Regimental Centre Wellington witnessed the stupendous display of stamina, speed, agility and courage when teams from various formations of Indian Army competed for coveted Sport Climbing Championship held from September 12-14, 2017 at the prestigious Army Adventure Nodel Centre (Sport Climbing), Wellington under the aegis of Army Adventure Wing.
Each team comprised six climbers in the three events of Speed Climbing, Lead Climbing and Bouldering. Each of these teams demonstrated exceptional spirit of sportsmanship, courage and determination in this upcoming and challenging sport. Sport Climbing has been included in 2020 Olympics which makes this event even more significant in today's time.
In a spectacular closing ceremony held on September 14, 2017, Maj Gen Kulpreet Singh, Additional Director General Military Training gave away the prizes to the winners. Speaking on the occasion Maj Gen Kulpreet Singh appreciated the efforts of the Node in maintaining higher standards of this facility and hoped that the services players will strive hard to perform well at all levels. Southern Command Sport Climbing team was declared the overall winner in the Championship.
