Central Command Investiture Ceremony
In an impressive ceremony held at the Kumaon Regimental Centre at Ranikhet on September 12, 2017, Lieutenant General Balwant Singh Negi, Army Commander, Central Command presented Gallantry and Distinguished service awards to 55 military personnel for displaying exemplary courage in the face of extreme odds and serving with distinction, dedication and selflessness while performing their duties.
4 Yudh Seva Medals, 6 Sena Medals (Gallantry) including one posthumous, 6 Sena Medals (Distinguished), 1 Bar to Vishist Seva Medal, 12 Vishist Seva Medals, 6 GOC-in-C unit Citations, 18 Surya Trophies, 1 Sarvottam Jivan Raksha Padak and 1 Jivan Raksha Padak were awarded during the ceremony. The Sarvottam Jiwan Raksha Padak was awarded posthumously to Sapper Vad Mitra Choudhary who laid down his life while saving the honour of a young civilian girl at Meerut.
The Gallantry award winners have battled hardcore insurgents in the most inhospitable terrains of Jammu & Kashmir, in the best traditions of the Indian Army with utter disregard to their personal safety. Sena Medal (Gallantry) were awarded to Lieutenant Colonel Nitin Gupta, Major Kamal Jangid, Major Akash Tapadia, Major Shivish Tiwari, Major Vikrant Paul and one was awarded posthumously to late Rifleman Shshir Mall which was received on behalf of the gallant soldier by his Next of Kin.
Lieutenant General Balwant Singh Negi also bestowed Unit Citations to six units of the Central Command for their meritorious and outstanding performance during the period serving with Central Command. He also presented the Surya Best Service Provider Trophies to 17 service providing units of the Central Command for their outstanding performance in achieving clientele satisfaction in the Command Theatre.
Lieutenant General Balwant Singh Negi congratulated all the awardees, recipients of Unit Citations and Surya Trophy winners and exhorted all Ranks to emulate their example and continue do their very best to protect and project the name, fame and glory of the Indian Army and the nation. He also complimented formations and units of Central Command for their excellent performance in all spheres of military activities during the preceding year and expressed his confidence that all Ranks of Central Command would live up to the expectations and faith reposed in them by their countrymen.
