Visit of Indonesian Navy Ship to Kochi
Indonesian Navy Ship KRI Usman Harun commanded by Captain Alan Dahlan visited Kochi from September 3-5, 2017. On September 4, 2017, the Commanding Officer of the visiting ship accompanied by Major Mohammad Prima Vega Capella, Assistant Defence Attache of Indonesia, called on Rear Admiral R J Nadkarni, VSM, Chief of Staff (COS) , Southern Naval Command (SNC) for interactions on matters of common interest to both navies.
The visiting foreign ship's crew were given a conducted tour of some of the training units under SNC at Kochi like Water Survival Training Facility (WSTF), Damage Control Training Facility (DCTF) and the Diving School. A friendly volleyball match between teams from SNC and the visiting ship was also played. In addition, The crew from the visiting ship visited places of interest at Fort Kochi, Marine Drive and local museums and also had a glimpse of Onam festival being celebrated in a traditional manner, during their stay at Kochi.
India traditionally has enjoyed warm relations with Indonesia, due to shared historical and cultural heritage dating back to thousands of years. In the recent past, India-Indonesia relations have shown an upswing and defence cooperation, in particular, has seen many new initiatives in the form of increased number of ship and military delegation visits, as well as training exchanges.
On departure from Kochi, a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) was conducted off Kochi on September 5, 2017 between INS Sujata and KRI Usman Harun.
