Captain PV Vikram Memorial 18th Inter-School Quiz Competition was held on October 24, 2017 at Kozhikode. The event was inaugurated by Col NA Pradeep, Deputy Commander and Chief Administrative Officer, NCC Gp HQ Kozhikode.
Lt Col PKPV Panicker & Mrs Kalyani Panicker instituted the trophy in memory of their son Capt PV Vikram, Sena Medal (Posthumous) of 141 Field Regiment (KARGIL) who laid down his life during Operation Vijay at Kargil on June 2, 1999. The event was held for the first time in the year 2000 and is being conducted every year since then. Capt PV Vikram himself was a keen quiz enthusiast and the event was started to keep his memory alive.
On June 2, 1999, Captain PV Vikram was performing the duties of Forward Observation Officer (FOO) with 4th Battalion, the JAT Regiment, tasked to capture Bajrang Post in Kaksar Sub-Sector from enemy intruders. Capt PV Vikram, as leading FOO showcased exceptional courage and directed accurate and devastation artillery fire on the enemy post, inspite of the rugged terrain and effective domination by enemy post. During the final assault, Capt PV Vikram was hit by a splinter from heavy enemy shelling and made the supreme sacrifice for the nation by laying down his life.
Captain PV Vikram was awarded Sena Medal (Posthumous) on August 15, 1999 for his valiant action in Kargil.
