Major General N Srinivas Rao, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Telangana & Andhra Pradesh Sub Area (TASA) inaugurated 102 dwelling units for Jawans under the Married Accommodation Project (MAP) at Kowkoor, Secunderabad on November 3, 2017. Brigadier Manish Upadhyay, Deputy GOC, senior Army and MAP project officers were present on the occasion. After formal inauguration, the GOC inspected the dwelling units and suggested measures to be taken for better supply of drinking water and other amenities. He asked the officials to take feedback periodically from the occupants and resolve all issues to ensure user satisfaction. This is the part of 1128 dwelling units constructed for Army and Air Force under phase-II in Secunderabad MAP project. A total number of 472 dwelling units were constructed for army and 656 for Air Force in 25 pockets under phase-II involving an expenditure of Rs 276.75 crores. All the dwelling units with improved design and accessories at Kowkoor are for Army Jawans. Green building norms like rain water harvesting and solar water heating system have been incorporated in this project. Other external facilities include roads, pathways, compound walls, security lights, guard rooms, garbage bins, and drainage systems.
The Married Accommodation Project (MAP) was announced by former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2001, wherein approximately two lakh dwelling units are being constructed for Army, Navy and Air Force over three phases. The scales and specifications of married accommodation were improved in 2009 by the government which has resulted in improved quality of houses much to the appreciation of soldiers. The MAP housing is being constructed by DG MAP organisation under supervision of local military commanders. DG MAP organisation was raised in 2002-03 and has emerged as one of the finest government housing construction agency in just fifteen years of its raising.
