A training capsule for five officers and 25 other ranks of Bangladesh National Army commenced at Danapur Cantt with a brief yet impressive opening ceremony that saw the unfurling of the national flags of both countries. The ceremony, where Bangladeshi and Indian soldiers stood side by side was presided over by Brigadier Manoj Natarajan, SC, Commandant, the Bihar Regimental Centre.
The Bangladeshi contingent comprising of five officers and 25 other ranks was welcomed by Brigadier M Natarajan, SC, Commandant the Bihar Regimental Centre. The visiting Bangladesh Army Contingent is headed by Lieutenant Colonel S M Towhidul Islam, SSP. The Indian Training Team is headed by Colonel DD Swain, an experienced Counter Insurgency/ Counter Terrorism Operations expert having commanded a Rashtriya Rifle Battalion in Jammu and Kashmir and operated in insurgency affected areas of Assam and Manipur for a number of years along with four officers, eight JCOs and 15 NCOs.
The Commandant in his inaugural remarks highlighted the common shared beliefs of democracy, freedom, equality and justice that are precious to both nations. He also mentioned the common perils of Insurgency and Terrorism related incidents to which both countries have been a victim and highlighted the importance of relentless Counter Insurgency/Counter Terrorism Operations to reduce operating space of the terrorists. He also emphasised the fact that an insurgency is to be addressed differently from terrorism and the effort for the same is a relentless one with no rear areas. To that effect, sharing of rich experiences of the Indian Army will go a long way in strengthening the common beliefs of both the countries regarding precepts of Counter Insurgency/ Counter Terrorism Operations. At the end, the Commandant highlighted that such initiatives to strengthen Indo-Bangladesh ties will be mutually beneficial for developing common operating procedures for eventuality in future as threats and inimical groups in both countries are similar.
The Platoon strength of Bangladesh Army will be training at Danapur Cantt for four weeks. The training team and the contingent will be sharing their respective knowledge and experiences on the varied nuances and facets of Counter Insurgency/ Counter Terrorism Operations and will be subjected to dynamic operational scenarios where they will be encouraged to exercise and hone their tactical and technical skills in simulated hostile scenarios. Subject experts from both teams will also hold detailed discussions to share their experience on varied topics for mutual benefit.
Besides training on Counter Insurgency/ Counter Terrorism Operations, various cultural programme and visit to nearby heritage/ tourist places will also be carried out to enhance understanding of each other's culture and history.
