Raised on August 23, 1966, Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) is one of the largest voluntary organisations in India. Year 2016 is the Golden Jubilee Year of AWWA. The fifty glorious years have been a saga of Army Wives braving all odds, standing in support of each other through testing times. AWWA's oneness is the strong invisible support for the Army personals who serve on the frontiers worry less. In the five decades of existence, AWWA has transformed from a facilitator to Veer Naris, to a wide range of roles in welfare, education, health of its ladies, care of widows, their dependents and exclusive schools for the differently abled.
The AWWA celebrations were held over a period of seven days the final day being August 23, 2016. The event was celebrated at Delhi, Regional and Zonal levels all over India. Mrs Namita Suhag, President AWWA was the chief guest for the function at Delhi. The function had motivational talk, important information on skill training, skit on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, self defence programme and traditional Indian state dance performances. In Delhi, various activities and competitions were organised. A few of them were tree plantation, Run for Fun, Painting, Healthy Baby and Master Chef competition.
A workshop for Veer Naris was also organised from August 2 to 4, 2016 at Delhi. The Veer Naris were also felicitated by President AWWA on culmination of the seminar.
The AWWA Day address by President AWWA highlighted the achievements of the predecessors and their remarkable contributing to AWWA. President AWWA thanked her predecessors and all the valuable members of AWWA fraternity past and prime present for helping AWWA reach so high, establishing a place of its own in the voluntary organisations of India.
The AWWA Day also saw the release of the Asha Greeting Cards, Asha Wrapping Paper, AWWA Journal Avani and AWWA Coffee Table Book. The event culminated with the felicitation of the participants and thanks giving to all the attendees.
