A trilateral Joint exercise 'Dosti – XIII' between India, Maldives and Srilanka was conducted at/off Male from October 25 to 29, 2016. The aim of the exercise was to foster maritime cooperation in the region and enhance operational capability and cooperation between Indian Coast Guard, Maldivian National Defence Force (Coast Guard) (MNDF CG) and Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG). The opening ceremony of 'Dosti XIII' was held at Islamic Convention Centre, Male on October 26, 1206 with Minister of Defence and National Security, Mr Adam Shareef Umar as Chief Guest.
The trilateral Indo – Maldives -Srilanka Joint Coast Guard 'exercise at sea' was conducted off Male on October 27, 2016. ICGS Samudra Pavak with integral Chetak Helicopter and one Dornier Aircraft of Indian Coast Guard, CGS Huravee and One Helicopter of MNDF Coast Guard and SLNS Sagara of Sri Lankan Coast Guard participated in the exercise.
Director General Rajendra Singh, DGICG along with Minister of Defence and National Security, Mr Adam Shareef Umar, Mr Akhilesh Mishra, High Commissioner of India to the Republic of Maldives, Major General Ahmad Siyam, Chief of Defence Force MNDF, Director General Sri Lankan Coast Guard Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge and Colonel Mohamed Ibrahim, MNDF (CG) Commander embarked onboard ICGS Samudra Pavak to oversee the joint exercise. In addition, representatives from various Maldivian Department/agencies also witnessed the joint exercise. Major Fernand Lepoto, Naval Wing Commander, Seychelles Coast Guard also participated in the Exercise as observer from Seychelles.
During the visit, DGICG called on Mr Adam Shareef Umar, Minister of Defence and National Security, Maldives, Major General Ahmed Shiyam NDC, PSC, Chief of Defence Force (CDF), Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Minister of Economic Development Mr Mohamed Saeed and Mr Akhilesh
Mr Mishra, the High Commissioner of India and discussed issues towards strengthening working level relationship including interoperability.
The joint interaction enabled establishing joint working procedures for Coast Guard charter of duties including Search and Rescue, Pollution Response, anti poaching/ smuggling and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
