President's 'Standard' Presented
Release of the First Day Cover
It was a historic moment for the Army at Bikaner Military Station when Gen Bikram Singh, Chief of the Army Staff, on behalf of the President Mr Pranab Mukherjee, presented the 'Standard' to 67 Armoured Regiment. To commemorate this historic event, the COAS also released a "Special Day Cover".
This honour has been bestowed upon 67 Armoured Regiment in due recognition of their dedicated and meritorious service since its raising on September 15, 1967. 67 Armoured Regiment is frontline Regiment of the Indian Armoured Corps which has participated in a large number of operations undertaken by the Army as also contributed pers for UN peace keeping operations. The hard work and sacrifices made by the valiant soldiers of this Regiment have been recognized by the award of one Param Vishisht Seva Medal, one Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, one Yudh Seva Medal, two Sena Medal (Gallantry), one Vishisht Seva Medal, ten Chief of Army Staff Commendation Cards and fourteen General Officer Commanding in Chief Commendation Cards.
On this occasion, the regiment conducted a mounted parade on tanks with clockwork precision and immaculate co-ordination in consonance with the highest traditions of the Indian Army. A formation of roaring tanks mounting the President's 'Standard' paraded with élan and pride amidst an exhilarating audience. The Parade was commanded by Col B Ravi, Commandant 67 Armoured Regiment.
The ceremony was also graced by Lt Gen AK Sahni, GOC-in-C, South Western Command, Lt Gen NS Ghei, GOC, Chetak Corps and a number of senior military and civil dignitaries. The chief host of the event was Lt Gen AS Chabbewal, Master General of Ordnance and Colonel of 67 Armoured Regiment.
