The Fast Patrol Vessel ICGS Rani Gaidinliu, of the Indian Coast Guard was commissioned on October 19, 2016 at Visakhapatnam by Director General Rajendra Singh, Director General Indian Coast Guard in the presence of Inspector General Rajan Bargotra, Commander Coast Guard Region (East) and other senior dignitaries of the Central and State Government. The ship has been named after famous freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu from Manipur. Mr Gaikhangam. Dy Chief Minister of Manipur, Mr Thounaojam Chaoba Singh and Mr Adim Pamei also graced the occasion.
The 51 m Fast Patrol Vessel, ICGS Rani Gaidinliu, is the fourth of the its class, designed and built indigenously by M/s Hindustan Shipyard Limited. The vessel is equipped with the most advanced and sophisticated navigational and communication sensors and equipment. The ship is propelled by three MTU 4000 series Diesel engines and is capable of achieving a maximum speed of 34 Knots.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General Indian Coast Guard lauded the efforts of the Coast Guard in ensuring foolproof coastal security. The ship will primarily focus on surveillance, coastal patrol, anti smuggling operations, protection of fishermen apart from the routine search and rescue operations. He described the commissioning as yet another testimony to our indigenous ship building capability which further bolsters the nation's 'Make in India' campaign. The Director General Indian Coast Guard also added that the dynamic security scenario in the maritime domain dictates the need for coastal security 24x7 wherein, the Coast Guard have to maintain a constant vigil.
ICGS "Rani Gaidinliu" has five officers and 34 men and is commanded by Commandant (JG) Ramesh V Talke. The ship will be based at Krishnapatnam under the administrative and operational control of the Commander, Coast Guard Region (East).
ICGS Rani Gaidinliu on joining the fleet will enhance the Coast Guard's capability in furthering its mandate of maritime safety and security of the eastern seaboard.
