Appointments
Lt Gen Dewan Rabindranath Soni, VSM assumed the appointment of Army Commander, Southern Command on December 1, 2017. The General officer was commissioned into the Central India Horse in June 1979. He commanded 47 Armoured Regiment from July 1999 to December 2001, an Armoured Brigade, Armoured Division and the Chetak Corps on the Western Front. He has been an Instructor Class 'C' at Armoured Corps Centre and School, Ahmednagar, a Directing Staff in the Senior Command Wing at Army War College, Mhow and has also served as Commander, School of Technical Training at Ahmednagar.
Shri Sunil Kumar Chourasia, IOFS, has been appointed as the new Director General of Ordnance Factories (DGOF) and Chairman of the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) from December 1, 2017. Previously, he was Member, OFB and was in charge of Materials & Components division.
Graduating in Mechanical Engineering from Jabalpur and thereafter earning an M Tech from IIT Kanpur, Shri Chourasia joined Indian Ordnance Factories Service in 1981. He was deputed by the Government of India to United Kingdom for an MBA. While he was in the Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi, he was awarded an M Phil.
Maj Gen IJS Hundal assumed the appointment of Commandant NCC OTA, Kamptee on December 1, 2017. Maj Gen IJS Hundal is a fourth generation Army Officer. He is an alumni of National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. The General Officer was commissioned into Army Air Defence in December 1982 and has impeccable credentials and vast experience of having tenated various Instructional, Staff and Command assignments. He has the proud privilege of commanding an Army Air Defence Regiment and Independent Air Defence Brigade. He is well versed with NCC having served a short stint as Cdr NCC Group Headquarters in Amravati, Maharashtra. He is taking over as Commandant after a tenure as MG AAD, Headquarters Western Command.
Rear Admiral Sanjay Roye took over the reins of the Gujarat, Daman and Diu Naval Area from Rear Admiral Sandeep Beecha, as its third Flag Officer Commanding, at a ceremonial parade held at Headquarters, Gujarat, Daman and Diu Naval Area on November 27,2017.
Rear Admiral Sanjay Roye joined National Defence Academy in the year 1983 and was commissioned in the Indian Navy in the year 1986. He is a recipient of the coveted 'Binoculars' and 'CNS Gold Medal' for being adjudged the 'Best All-round Cadet' and 'First in Order of Merit' during cadet's and midshipman training respectively.
Rear Admiral Sandeep Beecha took over the reins of the Naval War College from Rear Admiral Monty Khanna, AVSM, NM as its third Commandant, at a ceremonial parade held at INS Mandovi, Goa on November 29, 2016.
Rear Admiral Sandeep Beecha is an alumnus of Naval Academy and was commissioned in the Indian Navy on July 21, 1986. He has commanded CGS C-05, INS Ajay, INS Vindhyagiri, INS Rajput and he has earlier served at Goa as Commanding Officer of INS Mandovi.
Brigadier Vivekanand has taken over the Command of Military Hospital Secunderabad from Brigadier K Satyanand. Brigadier Vivekanand is a post graduate of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) Pune and was a Professor of Anesthesiology at the same college prior to the present assignment. Both the incoming and outgoing Commandants called on the GOC of Telangana and Andhra Sub Area Major General N Srinivas Rao. GOC congratulated the new Commandant and wished him a professionally successful tenure.
